Community & Career Exploration & Apprenticeship Program (CCEAP) - Young People

It's about you. Exploring:
  • your interests
  • your hobbies
  • your career options and questions
    • Something new and exciting to do after school.
You can learn just about anything.

Real world experience for resumes or college applications. Your mentor can be a great reference for a job or college.

Young people working on important community issues. You take action on problems you care about.

"My apprentice has taken total initiative on this project. He uses his own creativity and ideas to enhance the web page."

    3 ways to explore:

    Tours and job shadowing:
Visit people doing the kind of work (or hobby) that interests you. Join your Learning Web Coordinator on tours/visits where you meet and talk with people about their work. Get a first hand look into a workplace, where you can ask the expert any questions you may have.
  • What kind of training do I need to become a….?
  • What does a typical day at work involve?
  • What's the best/worst part of your job?
  • How much money can I make in this line of work?

    Apprenticeship:
Become an apprentice, and spend time learning from a skilled mentor, getting hands-on training and experience. Your Learning Web Coordinator finds an expert or professional for you to work with. You decide how much time you want to spend each week and how long you want to be involved. After school or weekends are popular times to work at an apprenticeship site. It's free-you don't have to pay to become an apprentice. You help with your mentor's work in exchange for the time and energy your mentor spends with you.

Community service projects for middle school youth:
Join other middle school youth to make a difference helping your community. After investigating community problems your group chooses to carry out projects that help your community. Some groups have prepared food for the Loaves and Fishes meal program, some have exercised animals at the SPCA, and others have helped make scarecrows for the Ithaca Children's Garden's Pumpkin Jam.
